"We urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, cheer the fainthearted, support the weak, be patient with all. See that no one returns evil for evil; rather, always seek what is good both for each other and for all. Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:15-18

Prayer in Time of Severe Temptation
"Then the devil took him up to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in their magnificence, and he said to him, 'All these I shall give to you, if you will prostrate yourself and worship me.' At this, Jesus said to him, 'Get away, Satan! It is written: "The Lord, your God, shall you worship and him alone shall you serve."'" Matthew 4:8-10
Satan, I reject you. Your offer is tempting. It looks really good right now. But I know that it is a drug, a counterfeit, a lie. You offer pleasure, which I know is good. But yours doesn't last. And you will hang it over my head afterward, offering this fleeting illusion as a show of your power over me.
But I refuse to accept it. I will hold out for true joy. The pleasure that lasts. Your power might best me alone, but I have the faith that slew Goliath, and you will never enjoy victory over it.
Thank you, Satan, for the opportunity to pick up my cross, deny myself, and join my sufferings to Christ's. Thank you for strengthening my perseverance through your trials. And thank you for giving God the chance to show His glory; by His grace, you have just been overcome by a mere man.
